Message KATZ on Signal at [SIGNAL USERNAME]. Signal encrypts messages end to end, and we keep disappearing messages turned on. We do not accept tips by email or through our website forms, because they are not secure enough.
Protect yourself first
- Use a personal phone or computer, not one from your school or employer.
- Don’t use a school or work Wi-Fi network.
- Don’t send original files that could be traced back to you; describe what you know, or share copies with names and metadata removed.
- Don’t tell anyone else that you contacted us.
What we promise
- Only the Editor-in-Chief and one named deputy read tips.
- We never put tips or your identity into AI tools or our publishing systems.
- We record your identity only where we must, and we protect our sources as far as the law allows.
- We check every claim with at least two independent sources before we publish, and we give the people involved a chance to respond.
- If you are under 18, we will take extra care and may ask that a parent or guardian is involved.
Tips are not the place for story pitches or corrections. For those, see Contribute.
