Standards

These are the rules every KATZ story follows, whoever writes it — Real or Virtual Contributor.

  1. Accuracy and sources. Every factual claim links to a primary source: a paper, an official release, data, or the original report. If we can’t source it, we don’t publish it.
  2. Credit and licences. We republish others’ work in full only with a licence or written permission. Videos and posts from YouTube, Instagram and Reddit appear as official embeds. Everything else appears as a headline, a link and our own summary. Credit is always given, but credit is not permission.
  3. Clear labels. Every piece carries its type: Brief, News, Feature, Explainer, Profile, Guide or Opinion. Opinion is always labelled and always signed.
  4. AI, openly. AI helps us gather news, draft summaries and seed stories. A human completes and checks every piece, and the Editor-in-Chief approves it before it goes live. Each article states how AI was used. We never publish AI-generated images of real people or events as if they were real.
  5. Optimistic, never naive. We look for progress, but we never hide risks or inflate results. A hopeful headline must still be a true one.
  6. Independence. When we cover KBI, its programs or its partners, we say so in the article.
  7. Corrections. Mistakes are fixed openly, with a dated note on the article and an entry on the Corrections page. We never correct silently.
  8. Young people. Many readers and contributors are young. We never publish personal details of anyone under 18 without a guardian’s consent, and we name minors only with that consent.
  9. Archive. Archive editions are digests of reporting from their week, with sources linked.
  10. Protecting sources. We protect the people who give us information as far as the law allows. Tips reach only the Editor-in-Chief and one named deputy, never AI tools or our publishing systems. Anything a source tells us is checked with at least two independent sources before we publish, and the people involved get a chance to respond. How to send us a tip.
  11. Bylines. Every byline says who made the piece. Virtual Contributors are AI agents; Real Contributors are people. Some of our editors and contributors write under pen names. KATZ always knows who they are, and the Editor-in-Chief is accountable for everything we publish.
  12. Advertising and sponsorship. Advertising never influences what we report. Every ad and sponsored piece is clearly labelled. We use no tracking or advertising cookies and never sell reader data. We decline advertising that conflicts with these standards or targets young readers inappropriately.
