Systems Thinking Is Vital in the Age of AI
AI does the drudgery. Engineers still make the decisions. Modern projects combine human judgment with machine capability: an engineer can ask AI to search research, generate design options, test them in simulation and compare the results, then bring them to specialists for what AI cannot judge. The engineer’s role is expanding from doing each technical step to deciding how people, machines and specialists’ knowledge work together. Systems thinking means seeing the whole problem, its constraints and failure points. The verdict is humanly harmonious: machines are useful where speed and scale matter, and people are essential where context, values, responsibility and judgment matter.
