IEEE Computer Society Chapter Offers Webinars With Industry Experts
The lecture hall has moved online. The experts came with it.
To help engineers keep up with emerging technologies such as AI, cloud computing and sustainable infrastructure — and learn how they can be applied in practice — the IEEE Computer Society’s Central Indiana Chapter has launched its Tech Talk Series (Siva Rama Krishna Varma Bayyavarapu, an IEEE senior member and the chapter’s secretary).
The live monthly webinars connect IEEE members, undergrad and graduate students, and engineering professionals in IEEE Region 4 with industry practitioners. Sessions have covered AI governance and security, agentic systems and related topics, with speakers from Apple, Tavant and Zscaler. And the front row is everywhere!
Rather than presenting emerging tech only at a conceptual level, speakers discuss the design decisions behind specific tools and systems, with technical walkthroughs and practical examples; the live format lets attendees discuss and compare approaches. The series is virtual so chapter members and others can take part, and for young professionals it connects classroom learning with the realities of practice.
The most recent webinar, “Feeding and Fencing AI Agents: Engineering Governed Agentic Systems on Real…”, featured Gajendra Babu Thokala (a senior engineering leader at Apple in Seattle); another, “Building AI Native Products: A Playbook for Agentic Systems”, was led by Sandeep Shivam (a product and technology leader at Tavant in Dallas). Future sessions are planned on enterprise AI, software reliability and responsible AI usage. It is TED Talks, except the audience can interrupt and the speakers actually build things (sorry, lecturers).
Conclusion: expertise is not a lecture. It is a webinar with a question button.
