American Doctors Spend Their Careers Proving, Over and Over, That They Are Doctors
American doctors spend their careers proving, over and over, that they are doctors. Three insurers have finally agreed to ask once.
CertifyOS launched the first National Shared Credentialing Program on 23 September, with UnitedHealthcare, Cigna Healthcare and Centene as its founding participants. Providers submit their information once, through a single portal — a “centralized credentialing home” — and CertifyOS performs primary-source verification to NCQA and Medicaid standards across every state where the clinician is licensed.
The service goes live in autumn 2026 on a per-provider, per-year subscription. CertifyOS says 1.4 to 2 million providers will complete credentialing through the platform next year.
Conclusion: SharedCred is not a database, but rather a truce — between insurers who each demanded the same paperwork, and doctors who had to supply it three times.
