Pakistan Went to Jeddah to Study the Atom, and Came Home With Next Year's Olympiad

Tuesday, 1 September 2026 · Source: Lead Pakistan

Pakistan went to Jeddah to study the atom, and came home with three medals and next year’s Olympiad.

At the 3rd International Nuclear Science Olympiad, held 2–8 August in Jeddah with about 120 students from 19 countries, Pakistan won one gold and two silvers. Muhammad Ali of Government College University, Lahore, took gold; Muhammad Usman of F.G. Sir Syed College, Rawalpindi, and Seerat Fatima Bhatti of Nixor College, Karachi, took silver. The team was picked through the national Pakistan Nuclear Science Olympiad and trained at PIEAS under the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission.

Hosts Saudi Arabia topped the overall table, but the closing ceremony belonged to Pakistan: it was announced as host of the fourth INSO in 2027.

Conclusion: Pakistan is not just competing in nuclear science, but rather collecting it — medals this year, the whole Olympiad next.
