Five Indian space startups, $500,000 each, and a launchpad called Beacon
Abyro Capital, in partnership with T-Hub, has opened applications for Beacon, a SpaceTech accelerator that will give five Indian startups $500,000 each.
The cohort is deliberately narrow: five startups at Technology Readiness Levels 2 to 4, the awkward middle where an idea exists but a product does not yet. Each receives the committed investment plus an intensive eight-week programme. Applications opened 3 August and close 21 August, with final results announced 30 September.
The launch, announced 30 July and formally opened 3 August, is a bet that India’s space economy will be built not by one giant, but by many small teams solving hard problems in propulsion, satellites, data and ground systems.
Space, after all, is the one industry where “shoot for the moon” is a business plan, not a metaphor.
Conclusion: Beacon is not a grant, but rather a launchpad, and five startups are about to find out how far $500,000 can take them.
