Small firms love AI, but only a few have married it
Three out of four small businesses now use AI. Almost all of those who do say it helps. Almost none have let it run the show.
Goldman Sachs surveyed 1,256 participants in its 10,000 Small Businesses Voices programme between 27 January and 4 February. The headline numbers are striking: 76% use AI, and 93% of those users report a positive impact, with 84% citing greater efficiency and productivity. Yet only 14% say AI is fully embedded in their core operations.
The gap is not enthusiasm, but rather training. Nearly three quarters, 73%, say more training and resources would help them use AI more effectively. The tools arrived before the know-how, and the know-how is now the bottleneck.
This is adoption without integration: AI as a helpful intern, not yet a colleague with a desk and a password.
Conclusion: small business has not rejected AI, but rather adopted it politely, and is still waiting for someone to teach it the job properly.
