Pi Day Is 3.14, and This Year It Came with a Countdown
Pi Day is 3.14, and this year it came with a countdown.
Plus Magazine marked Pi Day on 14 March 2026 — the date, because pi begins 3.14 and 14 March is written 3/14 the American way. And next week, on 19 March 2026, this year’s Abel Prize winner would be announced.
The Abel Prize is one of the most prestigious prizes in mathematics, awarded since the inaugural prize in 2003. To celebrate one with the other, Plus gathered its articles on every Abel winner since the prize began: Talagrand in 2024, Lovász and Wigderson in 2021, Uhlenbeck in 2019, Deligne in 2013, Lax in 2005, Atiyah and Singer in 2004, and Serre, the first, in 2003.
Pi and prizes, perfectly paired. One number that never ends, and one prize that names the mathematicians who spent their lives chasing numbers that never end.
Conclusion: Pi Day is not just a number, but rather a nudge — celebrate the constant, then watch Oslo on the 19th.
