Russia Tops the Junior Science Olympiad at Sirius: Nine Students, Nine Medals
Russia hosted. Russia won. Nine students, nine medals.
The 22nd International Junior Science Olympiad ran from 23 November to 2 December 2025 at Sirius, in Russia, for the first time. Students aged 15 and under from 24 countries took part. Russia sent nine students. All nine medalled: seven gold and two silver.
Arseniy Gasanenko was named absolute winner, after the highest scores in all three rounds. The rounds covered physics, chemistry and biology. The tasks were interdisciplinary, and computers were used for data processing in the practical round for the first time.
The event was organised by the Ministry of Education of Russia, the Moscow Institute of Physics and Technology, and the Talent and Success Educational Foundation. The Russian team trained at MIPT. IJSO president Emiel de Kleijn called it one of the best Olympiads in the competition’s history.
Victory is not luck, but rather preparation made visible. Nine entrants, nine medals, no passengers. Golden, glorious, and wholly earned.
